PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an on-board map display device which appropriately can indicate summarized map area on the map. SOLUTION: When a private vehicle is traveling along the recommended route, the on-board map display device halves its screen to display summarized map 20 and map 25. Then the shape of the summarized map area associated with the summarized map 20 in the map 25 is computed, summarized map area mark 26 will be displayed on the map 25, based on the above computed shape.
