PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine room-less elevator system capable of easily and reliably releasing a brake device without using any emergency battery in a main control panel. SOLUTION: When a car 4 is stopped between floors due to the power failure, an elevator manager or a maintenance worker couples a plug member 16 of a portable elevator operation apparatus 12 with an outlet member 10 arranged in a landing of a reference floor, and a brake device 9 is released by supplying the current from a battery 14. Further, the weight between the car 4 and a counterweight 5 is in a balanced state, and if the car 4 is not operated only by releasing the brake device 9, a maintenance worker or the like climbs on a roof of the car 4 with the portable elevator operation apparatus 12 and the plug member 16 is coupled with the outlet member 17.
