PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit heating of an empty container and to prevent discoloration, burning or the like on the bottom of an inner pot, which are caused by misjudgement of added water. SOLUTION: An electric hot water reserving container has the inner pot for heating water, a heating means for heating the inner pot, and a temperature detecting means for detecting temperature of the inner pot. If the temperature detected by the temperature detecting means shows an abrupt drop, the heating means is energized after a specified period of time. When it is detected that water is added, a mode is switched to a boiling mode, and heating control same as that carried out when power is turned on is performed after a specified period of time.
