A mobile terminal and a method for operating the same are provided to establish a communication protocol different from a communication protocol generally known between a ME(Mobile Equipment) system and a user identity module by inserting a contactless chipset interface between the ME(Mobile Equipment) system and the user identity module and realizing communication independence between them. A mobile terminal(1) comprises a ME system(2) and a user identity module(3). A contactless chipset interface(4) is inserted in a communication channel(5), such as a P2P(Peer to Peer) communication channel, between the ME system and the user identity module. The contactless chipset interface comprises an internal chipset(41) and one or more external units. The internal chipset exists in the mobile terminal. The external units, such as a contactless card, a tag, and a contactless reader, are temporarily connected with the internal chipset through NFC(Near Field Communication).
