FACIAL REGION DETECTION APPARATUS AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the positions of predetermined regions of a face by simple computational processing even when the face moves.

SOLUTION: Right and left nostrils are detected from a face image, and the position of a midpoint between the centers of areas representing the right and left nostrils is detected as a nose position (104). Areas present in predetermined positions relative to the detected nose position are set as a right eye search area and a left eye search area (106). Each of the image in the right eye search area and the image in the left eye search area is edge-processed, and a plurality of candidates for a lower eyelid position are detected according to each of the right and left eye edge images (108). A relative position of each of the plurality of candidates for a lower eyelid position to the nose position is calculated (110). Each calculated relative position is compared with the preceding relative position to detect the lower eyelid position (112).
