<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which a single crystal of perovskite oxide useful as piezoelectrics, phosphors and the like bonded with equalized crystal orientations can be manufactured. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to a process to manufacture a single crystal of a perovskite oxide expressed by the general formula MTiO<SB>3</SB>:X (wherein, M represents Ba, Ca, Sr or Pb or their admixture; X represents Pr or Eu when it exists). The process includes a step in which (1) an admixture consisting of nanocrystal particles of the oxide MTiO<SB>3</SB>:X or (2) an alkoxide of Ti, an alkoxide, hydroxide, halide diketonate or nitrate of the metal M and an alkoxide of X, when X exists, is dispersed a medium containing water and an alcohol and the admixture is hyrothermally treated at 70-200°C.
