PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus and its ink discharge state detection method capable of detecting an ink discharge state and presence of disconnection without increasing wires in the apparatus of the recording apparatus having an inspection function of the ink discharge state. SOLUTION: A heat pulse for driving an electrothermal converter is superimposed on temperature data output from a record head. The superimposed signal is input to a main body part from the record head. In the main body part, this is separated into the temperature data and a heat pulse by using the original heat pulse, and these separated signals are compared with the original heat pulse, thereby detecting the ink discharge state and presence of disconnection.
