PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for forming a 3C1B multilayer coating film which obtains excellent appearance of a multilayer coating film without decreasing the thickness of an electrodeposition coating film in the coating of the inside of an automobile body even if using an electrodeposition coating composition of low solid concentration, which is capable of forming a multilayer coating film with proper finishing character in short processes and/or in short time and which is capable of reducing consumed energy needed totally from electrodeposition coating to clear coating. SOLUTION: The method for the multilayer coating film including the electrodeposition coating film formation process and the 3C1B coating process is characterized in that the electrodeposition coating film formed on an object to be coated in the electrodeposition film formation process is formed by applying a cation electrodeposition coating composition containing at least an electric conductivity control agent, a cationic epoxy resin and a block isocyanate curing agent, in that the solid content concentration of the cation electrodeposition coating composition is 05-9 wt.%, in that the rate of coating film solid content of the intercoating film becomes 70-98 wt.% by conducting the predrying after applying an aqueous intercoating to form the uncured intercoating film in the inter coating film formation process and in that the rate of coating film solid content of the base coating becomes 65-98 wt.% by conducting the predrying after applying an aqueous base coating in the base coating film and clear coating film formation process.
