The swinging gripper shaft (1) is connected to components (5, 6) reducing its vibration. These form a spring-mass damping system, tuned close to the resonant vibration frequency of the gripper system (1, 2). There is at least one such damper. The swinging drive (3, 4) acting on the gripper shaft for opening and closure, is at one end of the shaft, whilst the damper is at the other end. Alternatively the drive is central, with dampers at each end.
