A method for preparing a solid titanium catalyst is provided to produce the solid titanium catalyst which has spherical, regular sterical shape, is superior in catalyst activity and hydrogen reactivity, and shows high stereoregularity. A method for preparing a solid titanium catalyst for olefin polymerization includes the steps of: (i) dissolving a magnesium halide compound in an oxygen-containing solvent, which is a mixed solvent of cyclic ether and at least one alcohol compound, to obtain a magnesium compound solution; (ii) reacting the magnesium compound solution with a titanium halide compound at -10 to 30 °C, heating or aging the resultant to obtain particles, and reacting the particles with a titanium halide compound to prepare support; (iii) reacting the support with a titanium halide compound and a phthalic acid dialkylester electron donor having C9-13 alkyl groups to prepare a catalyst; and (iv) washing the prepared catalyst with a hydrocarbon solvent at 40-200 °C.
