PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing technique that simplifies user input while handling login information that is commonly usable by external authentication servers in obtaining user information from the external authentication servers. SOLUTION: When a user's login name and password are input, a multi-function machine 1 requests an LDAP server 2 to perform an authentication process using a previously stored representative ID according to the input; if the authentication is successful, the multi-function machine requests the LDAP server 2 to search for the user information (DN) using the input login name. Once the DN is obtained, the multi-function machine then requests the LDAP server 2 to perform an authentication process using the DN.
