PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect efficiently whether a fixing device lubricant used for an image forming material is a compatible and genuine material whose use is approved or not. SOLUTION: At least one fluorescent tag is attached to the fixing device lubricant, and an energy source 20 for stimulating fluorescence emission from the image forming material 10 to which the fluorescent tag is attached is generated. Fluorescence emission from the fixing device lubricant to which the fluorescent tag is attached is stimulated, and the fluorescence emission 25 from the fixing device lubricant to which the fluorescent tag is attached is measured in a prescribed wavelength. When the measured fluorescence emission from a test fixing device lubricant agrees with a prescribed fluorescence emission from the fixing device lubricant to which the fluorescent tag is attached in a prescribed wavelength, the test image forming material is discriminated to be genuine.
