PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head for perpendicular recording which has a high recording magnetic field strength and an excellent recording magnetic field distribution in narrow track width. SOLUTION: The magnetic head for perpendicular recording comprises a playback part 11 and a recording part 12, wherein the recording part 12 has a main magnetic pole layer 35, a lower sub magnetic pole layer 31, an upper sub magnetic pole layer 34, a pedestal-shaped magnetic layer 36, and a coil conductor 39 for generating magnetic flux in the main magnetic pole layer 35. Lower and upper auxiliary magnetic pole layers 32 and 33 are provided adjacent to the main magnetic pole layer 35 of the recording part 12 on a leading side and a trailing side with respect to a medium moving direction, retreating from a floating surface 41. The retreat amount of the upper auxiliary magnetic pole layer 33 is set smaller than the retreat amount of the lower auxiliary magnetic pole layer 32. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
