PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact blade drive unit for a camera. SOLUTION: The blade drive unit for the camera is provided with a substrate 10 having an aperture 11; a first blade 20 and a second blade 30 for freely opening/closing the aperture 11; an actuator 60, including a rotatably supported rotor 61 and in which the length in the direction perpendicular to the axis line direction is formed larger than length in the axis line direction of the rotor 61, and in which the axis line direction of the rotor 61 is arranged so as to be orthogonal to the optical axis of the aperture 11; and a transmission mechanism for transmitting a driving force, from the actuator 60 to the first blade 20 and the second blade 30.
