PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection element with its detection sensitivity on a target substance being high owing to its narrow band spectrum obtained, a detection element device, and a detection method. SOLUTION: This detection element 8 consisting of a structure 7 formed on a support body 4, the structure 7 comprising a metal layer 2 with a capturing body 5 fixed thereon, is used for capturing the target substance in a specimen liquid by means of the capturing body 5. This detection element 8 is characterized in that a top dielectric layer 1 is formed on a surface of the metal layer 2 on the opposite side of its side facing the support body 4, and the capturing body 5 is fixed on a side surface 2a of the metal layer 2.
