PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a covering device in which a covering member is prevented from being moved by increasing a movement restraining force. SOLUTION: This covering device 1 is disposed in a building along the handrail of a balcony. The covering device 1 comprises a lower rail and an upper rail 10 installed on the floor and the ceiling of the balcony, respectively; a covering member 30 suspended from the upper rail 10 and movable along the upper and lower rails; and a lock device 40 engaged with the upper rail 10 and capable of restraining the movement of the covering member 30. The upper rail 10 is not almost wetted by rain since it is installed at the ceiling rear portion of the balcony. Therefore, even if the lock device 40 restrains the movement of the covering member 30 by an abrasive force, its movement restraining force is prevented from being lowered, and the movement of the covering member 30 can be surely restrained.
