A peripheral for a computer and a method of using the peripheral is for installing software onto the computer using Direct Memory Access. The peripheral comprises a computer accessible medium and a program product. The program product has codes to read and write to the Random Access Memory of the computer; and to bypass restrictions of the host computer Operating System that prevent the peripheral from gaining full access to all portions of the host computer's Random Access Memory. The preferred methods of using the peripheral automatically install software on a computer or copies forensic data from the computer's Random Access Memory once the peripheral is connected to the computer.
