A flexible container for blood transfusion purposes has an inflatable compartment formed on one wall, to apply pressure to the blood compartment to force the blood out. In the form described, three sheets of flexible material are heat-sealed together around their edges so that the space formed between walls 11, 12 forms a blood-receiving compartment and that between walls 12, 16 forms the inflatable compartment. Blood is admitted from a storage container 1 through a connecting tube 6 and filter 9 and, after air has been excluded from the blood compartment, the tube is closed by a pinch cock 7. Blood then flows through a sight vessel 21 under control of a pinch cock 26 but, when desired, air is pumped into the compartment between walls 12, 16 by a bulb 17, so as to force the contents out under pressure.
