A cup attaching apparatus (1) for attaching a cup (C) serving as a machining jig on a surface of a lens (LE) comprises: an illumination light source (3) for illuminating the lens placed on a lens supporting member (5); a screen (6) applied with an alignment mark (6a-6d), on which screen an image of the lens illuminated by illumination light from the illumination light source is projected; a movement means (12, 13, 14) for moving the cup set in an arm (8) toward the lens along a reference axis (L) for cup attachment, the position of the reference axis being associated with the alignment mark. The illumination light source is a white LED. The apparatus further includes a light intensity increasing and decreasing means (31, 32, 90) for increasing and decreasing light intensity of the white LED in response to an operation signal from an operation member (31) to be operated by an operator, the operation member being placed on a front of a housing of the apparatus.
