An active front steering system is provided to keep an input angel in a steering wheel lock state constant regardless of vehicle speed by setting a steering gear rate considering vehicle speed and the input angle of the steering wheel. An active front steering system comprises a vehicle speed sensor(310), a steering angle sensor(320), an ECU(Electronic Control Unit,330), a motor(340), and a steering variable unit(350). The vehicle speed sensor is configured to detect speed of the vehicle. The steering angle sensor is installed to detect an input angle of a steering wheel. The ECU sets steering gear rate corresponding to the vehicle speed and the input angle output by the vehicle speed sensor and the steering angle sensor by using a gear rate map, and outputs a control signal corresponding to the steering gear rate. The motor and the steering variable unit receive the control signal from the ECU and control an output angle so as to cause the input angle and the output angle to satisfy the steering gear rate. The gear map is set to keep the input angle in a steering wheel lock state constant within an allowable range.
