METHOD FOR HEATING GLASS BODY

The present invention is directed to a method of heating a glass body which comprises heating a part of the glass body with relative movement of the glass body and a heating source, wherein an inert gas is blown from an inert gas-blowing means onto the surface of the glass body near a heated part of the glass body. This method prevents the redeposition of glass particles and is particularly useful for fine polishing or cleaning, or for heating and stretching a glass preform for an optical fiber.
