APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR MEASURING REMAINING BATTERY CAPACITY IN MOBILE TERMINAL

An apparatus and a method for measuring remaining capacity of a battery in a mobile terminal are provided to inform a user of the exact remaining capacity of the internal and external batteries and implement various charge/discharge algorithms according to relative potential between the internal and external batteries. A method for measuring remaining capacity of a battery in a mobile terminal includes the steps of: checking whether the external battery is mounted on the mobile terminal when the remaining capacity of the internal battery is less than a reference value(S120); connecting the internal and external batteries in parallel by turning on a switch when the external battery is mounted to the mobile terminal(S135); releasing parallel connection of the internal and external batteries for a predetermined time per predetermined period(S140); measuring the remaining capacity of the internal and external batteries by checking voltages thereof for the predetermined time(S145); displaying the remaining capacity of the internal and external batteries on a display unit(S150); checking whether the voltage of the internal battery is higher than the voltage of the external battery(S155); and maintaining an off state of the switch when the voltage of the internal battery is higher than the voltage of the external battery(S160).
