The invention relates to an acoustic panel assembly (10). There is a need for a simple and inexpensive acoustic panel assembly (10). An acoustic panel assembly (10) includes a parent panel (12) and an insert panel (14). The parent panel (12) has a higher density body and a sound reflecting skin (40). The insert panel (14) is mounted to the parent panel (12), and includes a sound absorbing body (30), a lower density rim (32) and a sound transmitting skin (34). The parent panel (12) includes a border portion (18) which surrounds an opening which engages an outer edge of the insert panel (14). The border portion (18) and the edge engage each other and form an interlocking joint (36). The border portion (18) defines an annular groove (20) which receives the outer edge of the insert panel (14). The body of the parent panel (12) comprises a higher density expanded polypropelyene material, and rim body (32) of the insert panel (14) comprises a lower density expanded polypropelyene material. |
