A method and a system for adding an index word automatically in a search database by using classification are provided to add the index word automatically in the search database by tracing a user log, and using the same class and a related search word, and offer a more correct and wider search result to search requested from other users by adding the search query to the result document as the index word when the user selects the result document displayed for the search query inputted from the user. A search query input unit(903) receives/stores a search query from a user(900) by providing a search interface. A result document provider(904) provides at least one result document indexed by the search query from a search database(902) storing the indexed result documents. A selection request receiver(905) receives a request for selecting at least one document among the result documents from the user. An index adder(906) adds the search query to the search database as an index word for the result document appointed as the same class as the selected result document. A potential index word unit(907) stores the search query as a potential index word for the result document. An inspector(908) determines whether the potential index word satisfies a predetermined inspection rule.
