A novelty beverage bag, such as a tea bag, contains a predetermined quantity of a gelling agent. In use, water is added to the beverage bag which causes the gelling agent to swell up and form a gel, thus playing a joke on the 'victim'. The gelling agent may be any suitable non-toxic and tasteless gelling agent, e.g. sodium polyacrylate or sodium polyacrylamide. The beverage bag may include colouring agents, flavourings etc. to mimic tea, coffee, or some other beverage. The beverage bag may include a false or glued seal which melts on contact with water. A method of manufacturing a beverage bag is also claimed, comprising the steps of positioning a suitable quantity of gelling agent on a first layer of liquid permeable material, covering the gelling agent with a second layer of liquid permeable material, and sealing the first and second layers of liquid permeable material together. |
