A mechanical guide device of an aerial ropeway of a ski lift installation and a method of using the same are provided to secure operation of the ski lift installation during repair of a main pulley assembly by allowing an auxiliary pulley assembly to replace the main pulley assembly in an operating position. A mechanical guide device of an aerial ropeway of a ski lift installation includes main pulley assemblies(20a,20b) and auxiliary pulley assemblies(23a,23b). The main pulley assemblies have roller pulleys and are related to bearing structures(21a,21b) fixed to beams(15a,15b) of a pylon(10). The auxiliary pulley assembly moves between an operating position to replace the main pulley assembly and a standby position separated from a rope by an operating unit.
