SURFACE LIGHT SOURCE AND BACKLIGHT UNIT HAVING THE SAME

A surface light source and a backlight unit having the same are provided to improve performance of the backlight unit by lowering a firing voltage during an initial discharge phase. A surface light source includes a body, at least one electrode unit(160), and a heat line(180). A discharge space is formed in the body. The electrode unit applies a discharge voltage on the discharge space. The heat line is formed on a surface or an inner portion of the body of the light source. Plural discharge channels are formed to be parallel to each other in the light source body. The heat line includes a sub heat line and an extension. The sub heat line is formed to correspond to the respective discharge channels. The sub heat lines are connected to the extension.
