A method and system for characterizing a beverage, such as beer, flowing through a conduit, for example in a dispensing system, in which an optical characteristic of the flowing beverage, such as transmissivity and/or scattering, is determined using a light source OT and one or more light detectors OR1, OR2. Another characteristic of the beverage, in particular its electrical conductivity, may also be measured using electrodes placed in the flow. Measurements of the characteristics of the beverage are made only during flow of the beverage through the conduit. |
