A magnetic recording device, a control apparatus thereof, and a method for controlling the head flying height are provided to control the flying height of the head of the magnetic recording device more precisely by extracting pre-stored control values corresponding to the position of recording or reading. A magnetic recording device comprises a head, a flying height control part, a storage part, and a control part(110). The head records or reads data with respect to a magnetic recording medium. The storage part stores control values for the flying height control part, corresponding to the magnetic properties of the magnetic recording medium, by a unit for correcting the flying height of the head. The control part controls the flying height of the head by extracting the control value corresponding to the position of recording or reading.
