<p>The device (10) has a position determination sensor (12) for delivering a position signal (14) with an actual position of a vehicle. Position limits are stored in a navigation database (16). A speed control device (18) is equipped such that the control device determines a displacement of the vehicle to a nearest position limit or a speed limit area in a driving direction of the vehicle. The control device produces a speed control signal (20) depending on the determined displacement such that a preset speed of the vehicle is achieved at the nearest position limit or the speed limit area.
