A method and an apparatus for preventing overcurrent at a motor in an impulsive steering mode of vehicle are provided to prevent current increase occurring in the impulsive steering mode by detecting the impulsive steering mode in advance based on inner parameter. An apparatus for preventing overcurrent at a motor in an impulsive steering mode of vehicle comprises a rack bar(118), a gear box(116), and an electronic control unit. The rack bar is installed at the bottom of a steering shaft and moves linearly according to rotation by steering of a driver. The gear box includes a stopper(117) and a stopper protrusion(119), which limits movement of the rack bar and forms the impulsive steering mode, when the driver rotates a steering wheel over a predetermined steering angle. The electronic control unit control overcurrent applied at the motor in the impulsive mode on the basis of a specific equation of the motor.
