A system and a method for operating a web application are provided to relay connection of a web application operated by a contents terminal to transmit a page of the contents terminal to a communication terminal such that the communication terminal confirms whether the contents terminal is connected through a relay server and requests the relay server to transmit the page of the contents terminal. A web application operating system includes a communication terminal(100), a relay server(200), and a contents terminal(300). The communication terminal transmits a page request including a terminal telephone number to the relay server and displays a received page. The relay server includes an event relay which transmits the page request to a contents terminal corresponding to the terminal telephone number included in the page request, a page relay which relays a page received from the contents terminal to the communication terminal, and a subscriber information storage unit which stores subscriber information of the contents terminal corresponding to the terminal telephone number. The contents terminal transmits a start page of a web application to the relay server when receiving the page request from the relay server.
