EDGE TYPE OF LIGHT EMITTING DIODE AND DISPLAY APPARATUS EMPLOYING THE SAME

An edge type light emitting diode and a display device having the same are provided to improve light emitting efficiency of the LED(Light Emitting Diode) by polarizing light without using a polarizing plate. An edge type light emitting diode includes first and second semiconductor layers(103,105), an active layer(100), a first reflective layer(107), and a second reflective layer(110). The first semiconductor layer supplies electrons. The second semiconductor layer supplies holes. The active layer is formed between the first and second semiconductor layers and receives the electrons and holes. The active layer emits light by using a recombination of the hole and electron. The first reflective layer is formed under the first semiconductor layer. The second reflective layer is formed on the second semiconductor layer.
