An apparatus and a method for compensating a frequency based on digital wavelet are provided to generate a sound signal wherein a limited band is compensated by synthesizing an approximate coefficient with a detailed coefficient. An apparatus for compensating a frequency based on digital wavelet comprises a digital wavelet inverse filter(12) which calculates a detailed coefficient by using an approximate coefficient of a band-limited signal, a delay unit(14) which delays the approximate coefficient of the band-limited signal while calculating the detailed coefficient, a decimator(13) which decimates a signal output from the inverse filter, a high pass filter(16) which filters a signal output from the decimator, a low pass filter(15) which filters a signal output from the delay unit, and a synthesizer(19) which synthesizes a filtered low band and high band signal.
