The device has a retaining unit (5) for retaining and releasing printed products (17), which are collected at a circumference of a collecting cylinder (2). An operating element controls the retaining unit. The operating element works together with a stationary curve, which exhibits a curve section for releasing the retaining unit. Another curve is deliverable between a position, which effectively holds the retaining unit and a position, which releases the retaining unit.
