A method for preparing filter material using an eggshell membrane is provided, wherein the filter material is excellent in adsorption-fixing properties and antibacterial properties, is harmless to the human body, is environmental friendly by recycling the byproduct, and is very useful as filter material for water purifiers, air cleaners, yellow sand filter masks, antibacterial masks for hospitals, and industrial masks. A method for preparing filter material using an eggshell membrane comprises the steps of: impregnating an eggshell membrane with an aqueous solution of an antibacterial metal precursor selected from the group consisting of chlorides, sulfides, nitrides of antibacterial metals, and mixtures thereof; adding an aqueous alkali solution into the eggshell membrane-impregnated solution to neutralize the antibacterial metal precursor; additionally adding an aqueous alkali solution as a splitting agent into the neutralized solution and heating the mixed solution to split a portion of the eggshell membrane; processing the eggshell membrane obtained from the splitting step to determine shape of the filtering material; and neutralizing alkali remained on a product obtained from the filtering material shape-determining step. Further, the antibacterial metal is gold, silver, platinum or copper.
