PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for industrially advantageously producing a racemic 1-aryl alcohol by racemizing an optically active 1-aryl alcohol. SOLUTION: The method for producing a racemic 1-aryl alcohol represented by formula (2) comprises allowing a rhenium oxide to act on an optically active 1-aryl alcohol represented by formula (1).
