Production of a cross member (1) for composite steering axles of motor vehicles comprises molding a metal band in a profiling system to form a V- or U-shaped double-walled hollow profile (2). At least in the peak region (3) of the hollow profile the outer wall (4) runs a distance (A) away from the inner wall (5). The longitudinal edges (6, 7) of the molded metal band extend in the peak region (3a) of the outer wall and are joined by a longitudinal weld seam (8) which is then smoothed. The welded hollow profile is then divided up into cross members. Preferred Features: In the peak region the outer wall and the inner wall are separated by a distance corresponding to several times the sheet thickness (s). |
