Sintered porous nickel plates for use as carriers of the active material of battery electrodes are formed by sintering in hydrogen a powder mixture of 75% to 98% of nickel and 25% to 2% of polyvinyl alcohol and/or polyvinylpyrrolidone. The mixture may also include nickel oxide and the sintering is at 1500 DEG F. for 30 minutes or 1700 DEG F. for 10 minutes, the sintered plate having a porosity of 87% to 90%. The powder mixture may be spread in a wire mesh or screen prior to sintering. |
