Mfr. of optically active alcohol derivs. of formula (I) (where R1:halogen atom; 3-8C cycloalkyl opt. substd. with halogen atom; 5-8C cycloalkenyl opt. substd. with halogen atom; 1-4C alkyl; 1-4C haloalkyl; cyano; or opt. phenoxy-substd. phenyl. R2: imidazole - 1 - yl or 1,2,4 - triazole - 1 - yl gp. asterisk: asymmetric C) comprises asymmetric redn., opt. in the presence of an acid, of a ketone cpd. of formula (II) with a boron hydride reduction agent modified by an optically active amino alcohol of formula (III). (R3:1-8C alkyl; 6-10C aryl; or 7-10C aralkyl; R4:H; 1-6C alkyl; or 7-16C aralkyl; R5:H; 1-10C alkyl; 7-10C aralkyl; or 6-18C aryl opt. substd. with 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy). Boron hydride cpd. is produced by reacting the salt of an optically active amino alcohol of formula (III) and a mineral acid, carboxylic acid or organic sulphonic acid with an equivalent amount of a boron hydride metal.
