A method for controlling images and a terminal for the same are provided to vary an avatar's face, mouth, and gesture according to a user's real-time voice, without transmitting and receiving avatar data or control data to give variety to the avatar in the middle of video communication. A receiving terminal receives avatar data and avatar control data from a transmitting terminal which makes a video call, and stores the received data temporarily(S50). If a video call connection is made with the transmitting terminal(S60), the receiving terminal reads the stored avatar data and displays the avatar(S70). Then the receiving terminal receives real-time voice data from the user of the transmitting terminal(S80), and analyzes the attribute of the received real-time voice data(S90). Based on an analyzed result, the receiving terminal adjusts the motion variables of the avatar control data and varies the shape of the avatar(S100,S110).
