A method and an apparatus for managing a radio network in a radio communication system are provided to manage propagation environments conveniently and efficiently by enabling each MS(Mobile Station) in an idle state to measure and store radio network information in a shadow area or a dead-service area and to transmit it together with an SMS at a preappointed time. In case a radio network information management part in an MS enters a shadow area in an idle state, the MS collects and stores the radio network information of the shadow area(S910). If an SMS message sending time, which is randomly determined at a specific period of time, comes(S920), a control part in the MS directs a message processing part to create an SMS message which contains the collected radio network information(S930). In this case, the SMS message is transmitted to a destination number appointed for free charging(S940). Receiving the SMS message, an SMSC in a core network judges whether the destination number of the SMS message is a special number(S950). If the destination number of the SMS message is matched with the special number, the SMSC delivers the SMS message to a data monitoring convergence server(S970). The data monitoring convergence server receives the SMS message, extracts the radio network information from the received SMS message, and stores it in the radio network information DB(S980). |
