A method, system and device for transmitting IMS instant messages. Said instant message comprises at least a message body. The receiver terminal has a message-receiving threshold. In case of that the size of the instant message is larger than said message-receiving threshold, at least a part of the original message body in said instant message is replaced as a new message body, to modify said instant message, so that the size of the modified instant message is not larger than the message-receiving threshold. The modified instant message is then transmitted to the receiver terminal. Said new message body corresponds to the message body ID of the original message body. The server could store at least a part of the content of original message body and the message body ID of the original message body. After the reception of the instant message in receiver terminal, the content of the original message body could be selectively obtained by the ID of the message body. According to the example of present invention, the experience of users could be promoted, the utility rate of the network source is promoted and the limit of instant message size from the terminal capability is reduced.
