Modification method for the metal-containing surface (1) of an electroplating basket (10) used to hold metal (4) for dissolving in an electrolyte comprises oxidizing the surface. Independent claims are included for: (A) a method for producing electroplating baskets in which their metal-containing surfaces are modified as described; (B) electroplating baskets which have an iron oxide layer on the surface (5) which contacts the metal to be dissolved, with a superficial density of 3.5 - 10.5 g/m2>, especially 5.5 - 6.5 g/m2>; and (C) use of the baskets in electroplating in which the metal to be dissolved is a pure metal or alloy, especially zinc.
