A hi-pass OBU with a GPS module and a control method thereof are provided to accurately calculate toll fares by suppressing a crosstalk between the GPS module and a hi-pass module. A hi-pass OBU(On Board Unit) with a GPS(Global Positioning System) module(130) includes a controller(110) and a reference point database(140). When a vehicle enters a predetermined position, the controller turns off the GPS module and reactivates the GPS module, after a fare transaction is completed between a hi-pass terminal and the hi-pass OBU. The reference point database stores the reference positions for respective toll gates. The controller compares current position information of the vehicle from the GPS module with the reference position information from the reference point database and turns off the GPS module, when the current position information is matched with one of the reference position information. |
