摘要 A plasma display apparatus and a method for driving the same are provided to reduce address power consumption by compensating for a reverse gamma curve when the address power consumption is high. A plasma display apparatus includes a plasma display panel(100), a controller(400), and drivers(200,300). The plasma display panel includes plural first and second electrodes, and plural third electrodes across the first and second electrodes. The controller generates a first image signal by mapping an input image signal with a first reverse gamma curve and determines whether the first image signal is data having high address power consumption or not. The drivers drive the first, second, and third electrodes corresponding to control signals from the controller. The controller calculates a load rate using the first image signal when the first image signal is data having low address power consumption, produces the number of sustain discharge pulses according to the load rate, generates a second reverse gamma curve by multiplying a gamma gain with the first reverse gamma curve when the first image signal is data having high address power consumption, generates a second image signal by mapping the input image signal in the second reverse gamma curve, calculates a load rate using the second image signal, and produces the number of sustain discharge pulses according to the calculated load rate.
