PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of regenerating in a high yield and recovering N,N,N',N'-tetramethylazodicarboxamide which is used as Mitsunobu reaction reagent from the N,N,N',N'-tetramethylhydrazinodicarboxamide after a reaction at mild conditions. SOLUTION: In this preparation method, N,N,N',N'-tetramethylazodicarboxamide is formed by adding N,N,N',N'-tetramethylhydrazinodicarboxamide in water in which Pd(OH)2-C activated by hydrogen gas is dispersed, and stirring at a room temperature while blowing a gas containing oxygen.
