PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-soluble processing oil for metals, forming an aqueous solution or dispersion by dissolving or dispersing in water, keeping a stable aqueous solution or a dispersion liquid even by using in the processing of a magnesium-containing metal and causing little deterioration with time. SOLUTION: The invention provides a water-soluble processing oil for metals containing 1-30 wt.% polyoxyethylene alkyl ether carboxylic acid or its salt having an average addition molar number of the oxyethylene group of 4-20, and a water-soluble processing oil for metals wherein the processing object is a magnesium-containing metal.
