PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid fuel production method that is carried out by using a synthesis gas of hydrogen and carbon monoxide as a raw material in the presence of a solvent, with which the reaction is performed in a high carbon monoxide conversion from an initial operation stage and a runaway is controlled. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a liquid fuel from a synthesis gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide in the presence of a solvent, when the reaction is carried out in the conversion of carbon monoxide of≥50%, the amount of the solvent circulated is >200 vol.% per hour based on a catalyst volume in a period of at least≥3 days from the start of the reaction and then the amount of the solvent circulated is reduced to 50-200 vol.% per hour based on the catalyst volume.
