PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a curing agent which does not generate an amine gas on curing, as a curing agent for a novolak-type phenolic resin, for solving the problems owing to an amine gas formed when conventional hexamine is used. SOLUTION: Provided is a phenolic resin composition comprising a phenolic resin having an aldehyde group in the molecule having been prepared by the reaction of hydroxybenzaldehyde with formaldehyde or the like. Another phenolic resin composition comprises a novolak-type phenolic resin and the above phenolic resin composition as a curing agent.
